Manuka Essential Oil also commonly known as New Zealand Tea Tree Oil (but said to be more powerful than tea tree) is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the flowering plant Leptospermum scoparium. Manuka Oil has been treasured for centuries by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand where it grows under just the right conditions and eco system. The tree’s ability to cope with harsh environmental conditions is legendary.
Although the plant is sometimes called a kind of Tea Tree, Manuka Oil is very different in composition, source, and origin from the more common Tea Tree Oil. Like Tea Tree Oil however, Manuka Oil has many wonderful uses on the skin,
Pure Absolute Oils or Essential Oils should always be diluted with a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil before using on the skin. A patch test is recommended to see if your skin is sensitive to the product. With a dilution it is not necessary to dilute the oil as it is already diluted and can be used straight on the skin although a patch test is still recommended.
