Balsam of Peru absolute is solvent extracted from the resin tapped from the Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae which is a tall evergreen tree that has beautiful fragrant flowers and is native to the Balsam Pacific Coastal area of Central America.
It has a sweet vanilla like aroma with hints of spice. In historical times Balsam of Peru was used in religious ceremonies of the Catholic Church as an anointing oil and in folklore it is said to attract wealth and happiness.
The oil with its base notes makes an excellent fixative in natural perfumery.

Absolutes which are solvent extracted rather than being steam distilled are stronger and more concentrated than Pure Essential Oils. Being an absolute It is also a lot harder to find and more expensive than the pure essential oil.

Pure Absolute Oils or Essential Oils should always be diluted with a carrier oil such as grapeseed oil or sweet almond oil before using on the skin. A patch test is recommended to see if your skin is sensitive to the product.
